Love On Purpose

February is the
LOVE month.

Love. Is it a noun or a verb?

noun - person, place or thing

verb - to show action.

It is one word that is Both.

God has some things to say about LOVE. Love is in the Bible (KJV) 281 times.

One of the definitions for charity is "Brotherly Love." Many times in your Bible you will see the definiton of charity as Love.

1st Corinthians 13:4-8 Charity (Love) suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil, rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, edureth all things. Charity (love) never faileth...

Charity is in the Bible 24 times. Then there are other words in the Bible that refer to love such as Be Kind. We are also told to pray for others, which is an act of love. Honor is another act of love, as is bless. I know you can think of more as you are reading this.

Now that we have an idea of what love is, who should we love? Letís see what The Word tells us.

In Matthew 23: 37 Jesus says: Thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. So itís pretty clear that we need to Love God. Thatís pretty easy, God loves us and has done, and still does so much for us.

Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.

Most of the time that one is pretty easy as well, but there might be some times it is a little harder to love your wife (or husband) especially when they are not acting the way you want them to. Maybe thatís the reason God has to remind us.

Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.

Man, that one will sure make your mind go tilt, tilt, tilt. This one will definitely be harder to do. It may also take a lot of effort. Doesnít seem fair does it? Maybe itís not, but to know why Jesus tells us to do it, read on.

Matthew 5: 45 That ye may be the children of your Father, which is in heaven; for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 5:46 For if we love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Okay, now that makes it a little easier to swallow, but doesnít mean we will like it. However, when you look at what we get in exchange, it makes it all worth it.

Remember, Love doesnít always come natural, we have to love on purpose. God even reminds us to love. Love takes an effort. It will cost you. It takes time, effort, and money to send an email, note, card, present, to make a phone call, etc.

My prayer for all of us is "God teach us to love, not just to love the ones that love us, but to love the unlovely, our enemies, etc."

Thanks for reading.
